About Me
Following in my dad's footsteps

My dad and all his brothers are in the building trades, and I always knew I wanted to have a job like them. I can't imagine staying inside all day and slaving away in front of a computer screen. As soon as I could I started on my apprenticeship so I could get qualified and start earning the big bucks. I am going to be a roofer like dad, and maybe I'll take over his business one day. It's a slog getting through your apprenticeship, but I can see how dad has turned out, and it makes all seem worthwhile. I want to follow in his footsteps.

Lucrative Driving Jobs Requiring Heavy Rigid Vehicle Training

Jordan Bailey

The right driving licence can open up a world of opportunities when targeting the logistics industry. However, your current licence can restrict you to certain vehicles for safety reasons, even for seasoned truck drivers. It explains why many experienced drivers look forward to upgrading their licences when they get the opportunity. A heavy rigid (HR) licence is an excellent upgrade for any driver interested in furthering their career in the logistics industry. Unfortunately, many drivers are unsure of the opportunities an HR driving course provides. Here are the various driving jobs you are likely to qualify for when you pass an HR driving course.

Waste Removal

As Australia's population continues to rise, waste management companies and local councils have been forced to work extra hard to handle the increase in waste from households and businesses. Availing enough garbage trucks in the cities and suburban neighbourhoods is one way local councils and private waste removal companies are tackling the problem. However, only drivers holding a heavy rigid vehicle licence can operate a garbage truck. Therefore, if you are eco-conscious and have always wanted to work for an institution with similar goals, enrolling in an HR driving course provides the perfect opportunity. The course equips you with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle garbage trucks in cities and residential neighbourhoods safely.

Dangerous Goods Transport

As the name suggests, dangerous good transport (DGT) involves transporting hazardous material with explosive, flammable, toxic, infectious or corrosive properties. Therefore, leaving such materials in the hands of an inexperienced driver can lead to catastrophic accidents. As such, companies needing large quantities of dangerous goods transported locally or interstate only want drivers with proper credentials. However, finding truck drivers willing to operate HR vehicles transporting dangerous goods is quite tricky. Therefore, if you take an HR driving course, pass and get your licence, you increase your chances of employment as a DGT driver.

Removalists

According to recent statistics, residential property sales in regional Australia increased by 20% in 2020 as more Australians move from cities. For removals companies, this is good news since it means increased business. However, removalist firms need qualified drivers to operate their large and heavy trucks; hence, they only recruit candidates with an HR driving licence. The reason is that removalist service providers carry personal belongings, and the last thing they want is to get sued because of an unqualified driver's actions. Besides, drivers undergo manual handling training in an HR driving course, which helps load and unload clients' belongings safely and efficiently.
